Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, March 10.Badeh is on trial for a 10-count charge of criminal breach of trust
and corruption to the tune of N3.9bn- charges to which he has pleaded
not guilty.
Following proceedings in court, Justice Okon Abang granted Badeh bail
in the total amount of N2 billion as well as two sureties in the sum of
N1 billion each who must live in Abuja. While delivering his ruling on Thursday, the presiding judge noted
that the Badeh’s alleged offence is a bailable one and could therefore
not grant the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s counsel request
to keep him in remand.
Justice Abang also pointed out that under the law, one is presumed
innocent until proven guilty and therefore granted the accused bail.In addition to the requested sums, he directed Badeh to relinquish
his international passport to the court as he further explained that the
conditions of the bail were determined by the heftiness of the charges.
