While the first and second editions of the show were outstanding, the third installment leaves room for retracing of steps to the beginning, picking what works, improving on them- and getting better next time out.
1. Darey’s ‘decent’ performance
If Darey Art-Alade was the sole star attraction last night, many would have been left underwhelmed.
After his opening set- which ended with a beautiful rendition of Labyrinth and Emeli Sande’s Beneath your beautiful featuring Chocolate City’s Ruby Gyang- Darey simply failed to come alive.
The sound was decent, his voice was decent, his choreography was on point but when you talk about the standard of Love Like A Movie, ‘decent’ simply can’t cut it anymore.
Darey had set the bar too high with his performances in previous editions of LLAM, and bringing Olamide on stage to salvage what was an uninspiring performance, was too much to stomach.
2. Simplicity
Darey’s Livespot productions decided to play it too safe this year.
After going all out in the previous editions of LLAM, this time out, they kept it simple, perhaps too simple.
Nothing extraordinary or breathtaking was witnessed on the night.
Perhaps, this is one of the factors that might have led to most of the flat performances.
3. Vector’s goof
The rapper fluffed his lines during his tribute performance by mistaking ‘Pete Ene’ for ‘Pete Edochie’.
Paired with X3M Music’s Sammy, and with the screen showing images of entertainers who have gone to the great beyond- Nollywood actor, Peter Ene’s picture appeared on the screen, but poor Vector mistook him for veteran actor, Peter Edochie.
4. Ciara is a gifted entertainer
While it was obvious that the audience weren’t always in tune with her songs, Ciara still left the hall spellbound with her eye-catching dance steps and epic moves.
5. Ciara and Kaffy switch it up Nigerian style
This was definitely one of the highlights of the night as Ciara beckoned on the head choreographer for the LLAM event- Nigerian dance queen, Kaffy to join her on stage.
Kaffy evidently obliged and then proceeded to school her on some Nigerian dance moves.
6. Toke Makinwa was in the spirit… Hallelujah
YNaija spotted Aunty Toke singing her heart out during Ciara’s performance of I Bet, a song off her sixth studio album.The break-up song was a subliminal message to Ciara’s ex, Future, whom she had just split from at that time.
We bet Toke can totally relate with that…
7. Kenny Black’s amazing performance
Internet sensation and comic, Kenny Black brought out some semblance of excitement, which was rarely present at the show. After his interesting love-themed performance, he received an astounding round of applause from the audience and also got a lot of people on their feet.
8. Zaina’s off-key performance
Zaina delivered a performance that reminded one of Adele’s Grammy moment. Her performance literally got ‘some people’ looking for the exit.For real.
9. What the heck was Olamide doing?
As much as everyone had looked forward to his performance, on the night, Olamide was a shadow of himself.From forgetting his lyrics while performing Asiko with Darey, to his flat performance of Melo Melo– it was a forgettable experience.
10. Why keep Jazzman Olofin, Styl Plus as the last performers?
A decade ago, concertgoers would have waited till the end of a show to see them perform, but in 2016, only very few people are interested in what they have to offer. If indeed artistes like this have to be on the bill, next time, make them the opening acts.
