PREMIER League fans will be celebrating this afternoon after being given a huge piece of good news on ticket prices. It has been confirmed that tickets for supporters travelling to Prem
matches will be capped at a maximum of £30 for the next three seasons. The top-flight clubs have agreed to introduce the measure in response to the ongoing debate over the cost of attending matches.
The announcement was made by the Premier League today. It means away fans will pay no more than £30 for tickets from the start of next season.A statement from the Premier League said: “Clubs know that away fans have a unique status.
“They
are essential for match atmosphere and stimulate the response from home
fans that distinguishes Premier League matches from those of other
leagues.“They have additional travel costs and pay individual
match prices, as season ticket and other discounts are not available to
them.“Responsibility for them is shared between clubs and therefore it is right that there is a collective initiative to help them.”
Fans have vented their anger this season at the cost of tickets.
Liverpool’s
owners, the Fenway Sports Group, last month performed a major U-turn
over planned rises and issued a public apology to supporters.More than 10,000 Anfield fans walked out after 77 minutes against Sunderland.
The exodus followed chants of “You greedy bastards, enough is enough”.FSG wanted to charge £77 for a matchday ticket in the redeveloped main stand at Anfield and £1,029 for season tickets.
